The sun rises off the west coast of Okinawa as Captain J takes
Scarlette out for his first single-handed trip on Dec. 7.
Captain J and Scarlette head south toward Chatan. Although getting
the sails up and down was an exercise in patience, I know
understand why some sailors prefer single-handed sailing over
having a crew: There's less need to talk, you just do.
Captain J and Scarlette head north back to Kadena Marina. During
the sail, Scarlette reached 9 mph on wind power alone.
Captain J dressed warm for his first
single-handed trip off the coast of the South China
Sea.
